Forest Park is the stud arm of Alice Downs Grazing Company, a 93,000-acre aggregation twenty kilometres north of Blackall, in Queensland's Barcoo country.
Forest Park Stud was established in 1986 following the purchase of 100 ‘S’ cows from Bull Creek Stud at Cloncurry.
Another 100 ‘S’ heifers were also purchased from Swan Hill Stud and in 1997, 80 ‘S’ cows and calves were specially selected from Trident Stud.
In 1989, Forest Park acquired the entire Comet View Stud, including bloodlines from Elgin Downs, King Ranch and Cumberland.
Foundation sires were sourced from Swan Hill, Yarrawonga and Strathmore bloodlines.
Today, the stud runs 400 registered females using sires from Benelkay, Cooinda, Forest Park, Hardigreen Park, Jamar, Moongana, Rockingham, Rosevale, Waco, Watasanta and Wave Hill.
We select our cattle with the commercial producer in mind — easy doing, fertile cattle that survive and thrive in the toughest of conditions.
Temperament, constitution and longevity are paramount.
Stud animals are afforded no special care and must make it to classification age under their own steam, with no crop, no improved pasture and no supplementation whatsoever.
The ability to grow on grass is paramount, and something we pride ourselves on.
Black-soil Mitchell grass flats carry the bulk of the herd, with buffel grass on the ridges and sandy buffel country through the rest of the run.
Alongside the stud, Alice Downs Grazing Company runs two commercial breeder herds producing weaner steers and surplus heifers.
Alice Downs Grazing Company continued their success in 2026 competitions, winning:
Forest Park's breeding decisions start with the country: cattle that hold condition on Mitchell grass and Buffel grass through a dry run, and females that get back in calf regardless. Here are some of the sires that stand behind this year's draft.
A deep, soft son of Yarrawonga Ironman with loads of skin, bone and amazing constitution.
Long, clean-coated with a large eye muscle area and excellent scan data.
A long, homozygous poll bull with a large frame and deep body, a tropical coat and out of a consistent, fertile Eidsvold dam line.
A thick-set bull with a wide topline, deep hindquarter, heavy bone and a docile temperament.
A bull with punch, coupled with plenty of softness, depth of flank and easy-doing ability.
Exceptional thickness and length, a huge eye muscle area, great breed character and a wonderful temperament.
Combines length, depth and softness — his progeny are exhibiting all of his traits.
A sire that has passed the test of time — 11 years of age and still working. Amazing constitution no matter the season, with overall soundness, structure and mobility.
Forest Park sells around 70 bulls a year — mostly through the Barcoo Santa Breeders Annual Bull Sale, with the balance sold out of the paddock year-round.
This year, Forest Park, Bendalla and Swan Hill studs will be offering 96 bulls at the 41st Annual Barcoo Santa Breeders Bull Sale on Tuesday 20 October 2026 at the Blackall Saleyards, commencing 9:00am.
